AIM vs. Competition

What is Your Advantage to Insuring with AIM?
Compare and Decide!

AIM   Most Competitors

Ownership

Ownership

AIM is a mutual insurance company, risk retention group, providing lawyers' malpractice insurance since 1989. It is owned by its insureds. AIM is dedicated to providing quality coverage, the best claims defense and continuous coverage in the marketplace. AIM operates to serve the best interest of its insureds as a mutual insurer.   With few exceptions, competitors are large stock companies whose motivation is to serve investors by making a profit off you! Very few competitors are mutual companies dedicated to serving the best interest of insureds.

Personal Service

Personal Service

Attorneys insured with AIM enjoy professional, courteous and personal service. We answer our telephone during business hours of operation. Call AIM and you will speak to a person who can assist you. AIM's staff works for its insureds who own AIM.   Personal service exists only as a marketing slogan. Complex telephone trees, voice mail and e-mail replace person-to-person contact. Are you dealing with someone who has ultimate decision making authority or someone who operates without discretion?

Underwriting of Insureds

Underwriting of Insureds

All underwriting is done by AIM, no third-party administrators or agents are used. You are in direct contact with your underwriter with easy and open communication. Your AIM underwriter is making the decision on your application and you can explain or argue your case if needed.   Competitors frequently use independent agents who are not employed by them. They often have little or no discretion. Underwriting decisions are often rigid and inflexible.

Claim Defense

Claim Defense

AIM does not delegate claim defense to third-party claims handlers or claim representatives. AIM does it itself from its corporate office in Birmingham, Alabama. Independent counsel is selected with insured's consent for claims requiring same.   Competitors often utilize the services of third parties to handle claims. Competitors using their own in-house staff may be using non-attorneys to manage your claim. Reservation of rights letters are over-used when not appropriate.

Convenience

Convenience

AIM insureds/applicants deal exclusively with AIM at its Birmingham, Alabama office for all questions and services whether underwriting or claims.  This gives you a personal connection with AIM.

Large, for profit, insurers typically de-centralize their services. The office that underwrites you may have no responsibility for assisting in your claim defense. Third parties (not on the payroll of the insurer) are sometimes used.

Coverage for Punitive Damages

Coverage for Punitive Damages

AIM's policy does not exclude coverage for punitive damages.   Competitors are likely to exclude coverage for punitive damages. Review their policy exclusions.

Coverage for Court Sanctions

Coverage for Court Sanctions

AIM's policy does not exclude coverage for court sanctions.   Competitors are likely to exclude coverage for court sanctions. Review their policy exclusions.

Individual Tail Coverage

Individual Tail Coverage

AIM will sell an individual insured (who has been underwritten as an insured) tail coverage without requiring all attorneys in an insured firm to buy it as well.   Competitors normally require all attorneys in a firm to purchase tail coverage. In a large firm, this effectively prohibits one attorney who is leaving the firm from buying tail coverage.
